Two hurt after shooting near 63/70 connector

Police are looking for a gunman after Columbia police were called to Women’s & Children’s Hospital Monday afternoon to investigate a shooting.

Police say it all started earlier in the day when a fight broke out downtown in the 700 block of Walnut Street between the victims and suspects. Both sides knew each other.

The suspects followed the victims to the Highway 63/Interstate 70 connector, where according to police, the suspects fired rounds into the victim’s vehicle, injuring the people inside.

Police confirmed two people were hurt, but it was unclear if they were shot or hit by flying debris from the breaking window or other fragments when the car was hit.

Security was heightened and multiple police vehicles were on the scene during the investigation.

Investigators have only said the suspects are described as at least three black men driving a dark-colored vehicle. Anyone with information on the incident are urged to call the Columbia Police Department or Crimestoppers at 573-875-TIP.
