Lawn Mower explosion destroys Cole County home

At least one man is without a home Tuesday after a fire near Jefferson City.

The fire was reported shortly before noon at 2205 S. Country Club Drive, according to the Cole County Fire Protection District.

More than 15 firefighters from the Cole County district responded to the blaze, which investigators say destroyed the home.

Officials told ABC 17 News that the most likely cause of the fire, based on the homeowner’s account, was a lawnmower explosion in the garage.

Tuesday’s high winds pushed the flames into the main structure of the home, making it more difficult to control.

Crews said no one was injured in the fire.
