Suspect on the run in Columbia

Columbia Police are looking for a suspect who took off from police after refusing to stop for a traffic stop.

It started shortly before 4:30 a.m. Sunday when a CPD officer attempted to stop the suspect for a traffic violation near Stadium Drive and I-70 Drive Southwest. The suspect then tried to “evade” the officer, refusing to pull over.

At some point, the suspect dumped the vehicle and began running through the Mercedes-Benz parking lot. He was last seen running east towards Clinkscales.

Columbia Police say it is possible the car is stolen although as of Sunday morning it had not been reported as stolen.

A sergeant with CPD said the plates and paperwork in the car gave officers two different addresses. However neither address panned out of investigators. The sergeant also said the car was in the middle of a title transfer meaning it had recently been purchased.

CPD couldn’t say why this suspect ran. The sergeant said it could be the car is stolen or the person may have a warrant out for their arrest.
