Early morning fire damages abandoned home in Jefferson City

The Jefferson City Fire Department worked an early morning structure fire Saturday.

The call came in around 2:45 a.m. When crews arrived they saw flames coming from the house located at 1204 E High Street. They were about to get the fire under control and out.

About three hours more than 20 firefighters were still on the scene working hot spots.

Division Chief Jerry Blomberg told ABC 17 News the house was split into apartment units but the building was marked as abandoned by the city.

Firefighters were able to put out the flames.

The structure contained fire and smoke damage.

The fire appears to have started in the rear of the structure on the exterior.

The Jefferson City Fire Department and the Jefferson City Police Department are continuing their investigation on the cause of the fire.

There is no damage estimate available at this time.
