Cold Front Moving Through Sunday Night Brings Chance For Showers and Cooler Temperatures
Winds were strong on Sunday in Mid-Missouri, with gusts ranging from 30 to 45 miles per hour at times. This was the result of a tightening pressure gradient that was a byproduct of the eastward shift of a low pressure system from Iowa towards the northeastern corner of Illinois.
Tonight, the cold front associated with this low pressures system will plunge south into Mid-Missouri. Models are indicating enough moisture and lift with this frontal passage to initiate scattered showers for areas mainly north and along Highway 24. The most likely timing of these light showers will be in between midnight and 4am, leaving all areas dry by 7am Monday morning.
Rain won’t be the only thing moving in with this front. Cooler air will follow in on the coattails, dipping daytime highs for Monday into the upper 50s to mid 60s; temperatures that are more typical for this time in April. These seasonable temperatures are expected to continue for the remainder of the work week.
