Fire causes $10 million in damage to Camden Co. mansion
The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Camden County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a mansion fire.
The Mid County Fire Protection District was called to a structure fire on Castleview Road just before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The 14,000 square-foot, four-story home was fully engulfed when crews arrived. About 20 minutes later the home collapsed. Fire officials say strong winds caused embers to spread and set numerous brush fires.
Several other nearby fire departments assisted. Osage Beach Fire also moved units to Mid County Station 1 to cover calls while their units were at the scene.
About 50,000 gallons of water was used to control the fire.
We’re told no one was home at the time, but several pets died in the fire. The home, along with 30 acres were burnt. The cause is still being investigated. All units cleared the scene shortly after 9 p.m.
The home was located outside the boundaries of the Mid County Fire District, but the Mid County Fire District responded initially. It sits on a bluff overlooking the Niangua Lake near Tunnel Dam.
On Wednesday, the state fire marshal said the cause of the fire couldn’t be determined. The owner said the cost of damage is likely around $10 million.
