Columbia police investigate shots fired on Third Avenue

Columbia police officers investigated a shooting in central Columbia Sunday night.

It happened near Third and Grand Avenues just after 8:30 p.m.

Officers on scene told ABC 17 the shots were directed at a home. Shell casings were found on scene.

Multiple officers were on scene, with at least five police cars on Third Avenue.

Officers were seen searching through backyards in the area with flashlights.

Police say the suspect fled the scene toward Fourth Avenue. They do not have a description of the suspect. Police are not sure which direction the shots came from.

Multiple people were inside the home, adults and children, while police investigated. Officers said no one was hurt.
