Police respond to reports of shooting in north Columbia

Columbia Police confirmed they responded to reports of a shooting in north Columbia early Sunday morning.

Officers said the shooting happened around 3 a.m. near the 1400 block of Tide Water Drive.

Police said callers from several streets in the area reported people in two different vehicles were shooting at each other in the area. Callers came from Tide Water Dr., Greensboro Dr., Bodie Dr., and Edenton Blvd. The calls came in from 3:01 a.m. to 3:07 a.m.

Witnesses told police they saw a light colored sedan and a light colored car shooting at each other. Shortly after the gunfire, a man was seen running through a yard in the 1400 block of Tide Water Drive.

Several residents in the Auburn Hills neighborhood said they heard the gunshots Sunday morning. Residents said they’re worried the shootings will soon spill over into their neighborhood. One man who has lived on Tide Water Drive for about a year said he doesn’t feel safe living there anymore.

A member of the Homeowner’s Association board said they’re trying to find a solution to stop the shootings.

This is now the fourth shots fired incident Columbia Police have investigated during the month of January.

Officers tell ABC 17 News they did not find any shell casings in the area. Police said its possible they couldn’t find shell casings because it was dark at the time. They also said its possible the casings stayed inside the suspect vehicles or that the suspects used a gun that wouldn’t leave casings.

No one was hurt and there was no reported property damage.
