Veteran laid to rest

War veteran, Jeffrey Lopardo of Jonesburg, MO passed away on December 13, 2015. Since then, no one has come to claim him as a blood relative. However, he was fortunate enough to have been a part of a loving community of other military veterans.

After service arrangements were made at the Millard Funeral Home off of East Ash Street, members of the Patriot Guard Riders were requested to stand in honor of Jeffrey.

The Patriot Guard Riders are a group that are dedicated motorcyclists that attend funerals of fallen soldiers, especially those that do not have any family.

Reed Hickman, a member of the Patriot Guards, remarks on Lopardo, “He served our country in Vietnam and we just can’t thank him enough.”

Reid Millard, owner of Millard Family Funeral Home, was surprised and pleased with the turnout, “We appreciate everyone’s concern and help and making sure we give this veteran a hero’s honor today.”

After the service, the Patriot Guard Riders began a procession down Broadway to Highway 63. Along the way, Stephen’s college displayed a flag for all to see.

Jeffrey Lopardo was laid to rest in the state veterans’ cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri.
