Man sentenced to 7 years in prison after leading troopers on 60 mile chase

A man was sentenced to seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections after leading troopers on a high speed chase through mid-Missouri.

The chase started on Interstate 70 back on October 25, 2015.

Authorities said Calyb Musgrave, 23, of St. Charles sped away from Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers for more than 60 miles.

On Wednesday, Musgrave pleaded guilty to seven charges. Those charges include two felony counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer, two felony counts of resisting a lawful stop, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of a car crash.

The pursuit started at around 1:00 p.m. when troopers tried to pull over Musgrave near the Hatton exit in Callaway County, Sgt. Scott White with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. But Musgrave sped away.

A trooper involved in the chase told ABC 17 a trooper tried to pull over Musgrave after learning he was wanted for questioning in a forgery investigation in O’Fallon.

Officers at the O’Fallon Police Department confirmed they are interested in talking to Musgrave regarding an active investigation, but no charges have been filed there yet.

Troopers deployed spike strips near exit 170, but the driver diverted them by exiting at Danville. Musgrave then intentionally hit a trooper vehicle and a Montgomery County Sheriff vehicle, White said. No one was injured.

Musgrave continued driving east on I-70 until he hit spike strips that were deployed near mile marker 202 in Warren County. The spike strips deflated one of his tires. Then near mile marker 207 in Warren County, a trooper crashed into Musgrave’s vehicle, flipping the car and finally ending the chase around 2:15 p.m.

Musgrave was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. He was later released to the Montgomery County Jail.
