Family still seeks answers one year after Rickie Dunn homicide

Monday marked one year since Rickie Dunn was shot and killed on Illinois Avenue in Columbia and one year with no arrests or answers as to what happened that night.

“Others have gone on with their lives but yet we are still struggling,” said James Dunn Sr., father of Rickie Dunn.

“Today it was hard,” said Pamela Dunn-Williams. “A friend of mine actually asked me why are you here [at work]? I had to be somewhere not at home.”

Just days ago, the Dunn family gathered for Thanksgiving in their home, but one less person was at the table this year.

To this day, Columbia police are still investigating and no arrests have been made.

Rickie Dunn’s family said Monday was like re-living the horrifying moment of when they found out Rickie was dead.

“I was at work, at the hospital walking through University on 7 East and I had a little voice tell me, ‘Your life is about to change,'” Dunn-Williams said. “Didn’t I know that in a couple hours it did change.”

She told ABC 17 News her brother meant the world to her.

“I think the part that got me is, everyday I pray for my brothers, that God would protect them and keep them out of harm’s way,” Dunn-Williams said. “But when you hear that, you wonder, Lord, did I pray enough? What did I do wrong?”

She said she and her father, as well as the rest of the family, are just having to take it one day at a time.

“We sit here and we grieve,” Dunn-Williams said. “And yeah, we look good on the outside, but we’re all torn on the inside.”

The Dunn family said they just want closure.

“If you can’t help solve the case, you can sure help the family and I just feel like there were so many people there that night that saw something,” Dunn-Williams said.

“We love Rick, we miss Rick and if you love Rick and miss Rick, why don’t you say something?” Dunn Sr. said.

CPD said it’s still following up on any leads that detectives receive, but right now there are no new breaks in the case.

Anyone who knows something about the incident is asked to call Columbia Police or Crime Stoppers at 573-875-TIPS to remains anonymous.
