FBI: Run. Hide. Fight. during shooter situation

The details of the active-shooter situation in Colorado Springs are still unfolding. Authorities said they do have a suspect in custody and three people are dead including a police officer.

The Colorado Springs’ shooting comes as many of us head to packed stores and malls for holiday shopping.

The FBI has counted 160 active-shooter incidents from 2000 to 2013. Of those incidents, six occurred in malls, but 17 people were killed during the shootings.

An instructional video featured on the FBI website said if you ever find yourself in an active-shooter situation, you should run, hide or fight.

Authorities said your first thought should be to get out of the area, but if you can’t, hide behind a large piece of furniture. And if all else fails, in a life and death situation, find an object that can cause injuries and fight back.

Authorities also said at work, or when you’re out and about, be aware of the environment and have an exit plan.
