Freezing rain possible for parts of the area Friday & Saturday

Steady rain will continue to push through Mid-Missouri overnight into Friday as a cold front tracks across the state.

This cold front will pull in cooler air behind it, allowing temperatures to drop rapidly after 3-4 AM from west to east.

Temperatures will mainly be in the mid-to-upper 30s across much of Mid-Missouri, but we’ll be watching our northwestern counties, including Chariton, Saline, Macon, and Pettis early Friday for temperatures to drop to near the freezing mark.

Temperatures are expected to be slightly above freezing above the surface, allowing freezing rain to fall if the ground is colder than 32 degrees. Areas that do see freezing rain can expect some minor glazing, especially on elevated surfaces.

Much of the rain pushes southeast Friday night, but there is a chance some freezing drizzle could linger for areas north of I-70 on Saturday morning.
