Gas prices down in Mid-Missouri despite holiday weekend

Those traveling through Mid-Missouri Wednesday night can expect to pay less at the pump.

AAA reports more than half of all U.S. gas stations are selling gasoline for less than $2 per gallon Wednesday.

Missouri is included in that group, averaging $1.86 per gallon.

Experts said it’s the cheapest gasoline for this time of year since 2008.

ABC 17 News talked to travelers Wednesday who said they’re happy to have the lower prices for this time of year.

“It’s good for the travelers, but for our economy it needs to be in that $2.50 to $2.65 range where everybody is making money,” said Tyler Rzepka from Overland Park, Kansas.

“I think a lot more people will be driving. I actually came in from Denver, so super cheap to drive in,” said Will Duggins from Colorado.

Those filling up in Columbia can expect to pay around $1.79 per gallon, and those in Jefferson City or the Lake area about $1.81.
