1 dead, 1 critical after crash in southeast Jefferson City
ABC 17 News has confirmed a 19-year-old was killed in a car crash Monday morning in Jefferson City. It happened on Highway 50 near Eastland Drive just before 7:30 a.m.
Police say 19-year-old Madison Bartle was driving in the eastbound lanes when her vehicle started sliding on the wet road. They say Bartle’s vehicle slid into the westbound lanes and struck another vehicle before coming to restoff the right side of the eastbound lanes on its driver side.
Bartle was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The driver and passenger in the other vehicle involved in the crash were taken to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment. Police say 82-year-old Clyde Timberlake was the driver of that second vehicle. He was listed in fair condition Monday evening. The passenger in that vehicle, 82-year-old Beulah James, was listed in critical condition.
The eastbound lanes on Highway 50 were closed for several hours as the police department’s traffic unit reconstructed the crash. They were reopened by 4:00 Monday evening.
ABC 17 News is working with police to find out more details about the victims, and we will bring you more information once we get it. The Jefferson City Police Department Traffic Unit was still investigating the crash Monday.
