Clear Weather Transitions into Wet Weather on Sunday
After high pressure moved into Mid-Missouri following last week’s storm system, our region has enjoyed calm and clear weather for the past few days. We’ll continue to see this weather pattern tonight and into tomorrow, with a major shift in the weather pattern beginning Sunday night.
Tomorrow will start off mostly clear, but the approach of our next weather system will become apparent in the afternoon, as we’ll begin to see a noticeable increase in clouds. As high pressure begins to trek to the east and winds intensify from the south, moisture that is currently centered over the southwest will filter northeast into our region, bringing chances for rain back to our forecast by midnight on Sunday.
The greatest chance for rain Sunday night into Monday will be in our southwestern counties near the Lake of the Ozarks. This rain will become more widespread heading into Tuesday, as we will see a second and heavier wave of rain move into Mid-Missouri in front of an upper-level trough that is currently bringing moisture to the Pacific Northwest. This disturbance coupled with the persistence of the flow of moisture from the Gulf will result in heavy rainfall amounts. Two to five inches of rain are expected through Wednesday, with the heaviest amounts to the southeast.
