Mid-Missourians head to the polls Tuesday

Missourians will weigh in on ballot issues in different counties at the polls on Tuesday.

One major issue involves Proposition 1 in Columbia. If it passes, it would extend a one-eighth of one percent sales tax that is set to expire in March.

The tax revenue goes toward parks and recreation, and supporters of the tax say that if the tax is extended, it will last for another six years and bring in about $18 million in revenue.

Voters in Cooper County will vote on increasing an existing sales tax from one-fourth of 1 percent to three-eighths of 1 percent.

If passed, the new revenue would go toward enhancements at the 911 center.

In addition to the tax, the ballot measure would also create a voter-approved board that would oversee all operations at the 911 center.

The polls are open in Missouri until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
