Trial date set for man accused of scamming elderly woman

A trial date is now set for a Howard County man claiming to be a Catholic monk.

The jury trial for Ryan Gevelinger is scheduled to start January 4 in Moberly.

Gevelinger is accused of financially exploiting an 86-year-old woman.

Investigators said he tried to get the woman to sell her Iowa farm and give him some of the money.

Gevelinger, who has many aliases, already has at least one felony conviction.
