“Back to the Future” in Jefferson City

A Mid-Missouri student gets a unique ‘Back to the Future’ treat, thanks to a Jefferson City teacher.

Brent Whelan at the Nichols Career Center arranged for a ride in a real DeLorean for Trevor Campbell. The teenager is a film buff, and one of his favorites is “Back to the Future II.”

Wednesday is “Back to the Future Day.” In the 1989 movie “Back to the Future Part II,” Michael J. Fox’s character, Marty McFly, travels to October 21, 2015, to save his children, yet to be born in 1985’s “Back to the Future.”

Whelan, dressed as the movie character Doc Brown said, “I’m doing this as a special event for one of my students, Trevor Campbell. He’s been a student of mine for a couple of years now; he’s just a great kid. He always has a smile on his face, something to talk about when he comes in.”

Trevor’s mother also brought his brothers today. She helped with the surprise by saying they were just going to a car show. That was partially true.
