MU Police preparing for homecoming

MU Police are gearing up for thousands of Mizzou fans and alumni to pack the city.

ABC 17 News talked to MUPD officials Thursday who said traffic is one of their main concerns this Saturday.

Police said they plan to again use a new way to relieve some of the traffic at the Providence and Stadium intersection.

They’re splitting Providence into two separate lanes at Champions Drive.

One lane will be forced to turn left onto Stadium, while drivers in the other lane can continue straight onto Providence in order to get to I-70.

Police tested this method last game day and said it helped with traffic flow.

“Well last week everything went smooth. It allowed for more of a turn lane. So, we will be doing that again this game,” said Major Brian Weimer.

Police said they’re expecting about 70,000 people to go to the homecoming game.
