Breakdown of severe weather chances for Friday

The latest severe threat for Friday expands the Slight Risk farther south to include most of Mid-Missouri, now including Columbia, Jefferson City and the Lake of the Ozarks. Storms are expected to develop ahead of a cold front in northwestern Missouri by early afternoon and track to the southeast through the afternoon and evening hours.

With warm, moist air already over the region and increasing wind shear, storms are expected to strengthen through the afternoon possibly producing damaging wind over 60 mph, hail over an inch in diameter and isolated tornadoes.

The tornado probability has increased to a 5% chance within 25 miles of a point for areas mainly north of I-70 and southwest to Sedalia with a lower chance farther south. (See map in related content.)

Damaging wind and large hail are the main threats with a 15% chance over much of Mid-Missouri. (See map in related content.)

The Stormtrack Weather Team will track storms as they develop and have updates throughout the afternoon and evening at and on our ABC17 News Facebook page. Look for weather crawls on the Networks of Mid-Missouri if any warnings or watches are issued and watch ABC17 News for updates.
