Mexico home and car damaged by overnight gunfire

The Mexico Public Safety Department responded to a report of shots fired early Monday morning.

Around 12:45 a.m., officers went to the 1500 block of North Clark.

Passengers in a brown car shot at least nine times at a person in a white SUV,Mexico Public Safety Department said.

Bullets damaged a house, a parked car and a tree. No one one hurt.

Several residents on North Clark told Abc 17 they are concerned.

“I heard, ‘bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,’ and I hit the floor,” one resident who did not want to be identified said. “And as I went to the floor, I called 911.”

Other residents said they feel unsafe living in the area.

Neighbors told Abc 17 they saw police officers using a chain saw on the tree Monday morning to retrieve a bullet. One resident said she was thankful the tree blocked the bullet from damaging her own property.

“I’m very scared,” she said. “You know, how can a person go to sleep now? Because what’s gonna keep it from happening again?”

Police have no description of the suspect or suspects at this time, Chief Susan Rockett with Mexico Public Safety said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Mexico Public Safety or Crime Stoppers at (573)473-TIPS.
