Columbia Airport reopens after hard landing

Columbia Regional Airport closed after a single engine plane suffered a collapsed nose gear during landing just after 2:00 this afternoon. Airport police say the airport has reopened.

The airport says a Mooney single engine aircraft had one person on board when it landed on the main runway, Runway 2-20. The person in the aircraft was uninjured, but the aircraft suffered damage to its nose section.

As is procedure, the airport closed until the damaged aircraft was removed. The closure delayed American Airlines flight 3166 from Dallas. The next scheduled flight was American Airlines flight 3420 from Chicago. Airport police said that flight would arrive within minutes of this writing at 4:07.
