Suspect arrested in early Friday morning car chase

A suspect is in custody Friday morning after leading authorities on a high speed vehicle chase in Columbia and Ashland.

Around 2:15 Friday morning deputies were involved in a high speed chase that started at Vandiver and Rangeline and ended on Highway 63 towards the Columbia Regional Airport.

Authorities say 41-year-old Leslie Shoemate was the suspect in the vehicle chase. He was operating a motorcycle.

The chase ended after Shoemate crashed his motorcycle into a deputy vehicle. He then led deputies on a short foot chase.

The Boone County sheriff’s office tells ABC 17 News the chase reached speeds over one hundred miles an hour.

No deputies were injured, but the patrol vehicle that was struck has moderate damage.

Shoemate was released after posting a $9,500 bond. He’s facing charges of felony resisting arrest, driving under revocation and careless and imprudent driving.
