Columbia man charged after disturbance on Quail Drive

A Columbia man is in jail this afternoon, accused of beating a man with an aluminum pipe.

It happened Monday just before 11 p.m. near the 2600 block of Quail Drive. Columbia police say a male victim saw Larry Williams fighting with a female and went to intervene.

Police say Williams started throwing rocks at the male victim, then grabbed a three foot long aluminum pipe and hit the victim in the forearm and both knees. The victim drove himself to a local hospital to be checked out.

Police arrested Williams just after 2:30 Tuesday morning onCherokee Lane. He is charged with second degree assault.
