Shots fired early Saturday morning in Columbia
Around 2 o’clock Saturday morning, Columbia Police were patrolling the downtown area when they heard multiple gun shots fired near Park Avenue and Fifth Street.
Officers found shell casings at the scene., but did not release how many were collected.
One neighbor tells ABC 17 she heard about four gun shots fired. She said the neighborhood is usually pretty quiet and she feels safe.
Witnesses told police they saw a white SUV speeding away after the shots were fired.
Police reports show on August 2, a white SUV was involved in another early morning shooting at the Waffle House on Vandiver Drive. The two incidents have not yet been confirmed to be connected.
No one was injured and no property damage was reported.
Saturday, community leaders continued in their Silence to Violence campaign. Pastor James Gray of the Second Missionary Baptist Church said a group was going around to neighborhoods that have been experiencing gun violence recently.
He also noticed the similarities with the white SUV suspect car.
