Man charged in Cole County shooting

A man was charged Friday afternoon in a shooting that left one person hospitalized.

Richard Beekman is now charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and leaving the scene of a shooting.

The shooting happened on South Brooks Drive and Jasper Lane, west of Jefferson City. A call came in to Jefferson City police at 12:38pm on Thursday.

The victim was taken to a Columbia hospital.

Three suspects are involved in the shooting, two men and one woman.

Two of the suspects were stopped based on a vehicle description report soon after the shooting. They were then taken in to custody. Police were able to obtain the third suspect’s phone number and were able to have him turn himself in.

ABC 17 News crews saw shell casings on the ground and the street roped off. Our crews also saw the suspects’ vehicle being towed away around 3:45pm.
