Police investigate shooting at Columbia mobile home park

Police responded to calls of a shooting at Vandiver Mobile Home Park in Columbia Friday at about 2:30 a.m.

A woman was shot and an ambulance took her to the hospital about 3 a.m.

Police told ABC17 her injuries are not life-threatening.

Officials found at least 10 shell casings and had one street in the park sectioned off with crime tape until around 5:30 a.m.

Police went door to door and questioned neighbors about the incident.

ABC17 News also spoke with several residents. Many said that section of the mobile home park is fairly quiet and has not had a shooting in almost 30 years.

Some neighbors raised questions about the mobile home that the shell casings seemed to be surrounding.

They said the people in that home have only lived there for about a year. A neighbor who used to mow their lawn said he would sometimes find ammunition laying around outside the home.

Officials did investigate the area immediately surrounding that home and questioned the people inside for about half an hour.

Police found multiple bullet holes in the back side of the trailer.

One resident said the bullet holes came from outside the trailer as opposed to from the inside.

The victim was apparently inside when the shooting happened and she was struck by a bullet.

ABC17 News knocked on the door as well to find out their take on the shooting, but no one answered. Two teenagers ran out the back door, got in a car – and drove away.

Investigators said this morning they do not have anyone in custody, and are unsure how they will proceed with the rest of the investigation.
