Sheriff warns of scammers posing as Boone Co. officials
The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is warning Mid-Missourians to be aware of scammers posing as Boone County officials.
The callers are impersonating Boone County Circuit Court and law enforcement officials in an attempt to gain personal and financial information.
Residents have reported getting phone calls stating a warrant has been issued for their arrest for failing to report for jury duty.
The scammer asks the citizen for debit or credit card information.
Deputies said citizens should never give up personal or financial information over the phone to these scammers. Government agencies do not ask for payment over the phone.
