Boone Co. Commission works to improve public safety
The Boone County Commission is working to improve public safety and is continuing to search for a new 911 director.
The former 911 director, Scott Shelton, stepped down from the position about 4 months ago after spending less than 6 months on the job.
Commissioner Karen Miller said she was surprised when he stepped down, but said it is a tough job to take on.
Miller said she has confidence in the Boone County Sheriff as an interim leader.
“With all the police shootings and things, 911 is critical, and we have such great staff. They do a wonderful job of getting the police moving in the right direction, and with Sheriff Carey I have great confidence that he will be a strong partner to make the right decisions as we go forward,” said Miller.
Miller sat down with ABC 17 News Tuesday morning to update the status of the new 911 center.
She said the rain has set construction back, but the construction company is working as quickly as they can. The center is expected to open up next year.
