Street closure to leave dozens without water in Columbia

One street is closing in Columbia, leaving more than 70 people without water so crews can replace pipes in the central part of the city.

Starting Thursday, workers are connecting a new water main off Texas Avenue near I-70 and the Business Loop.

It’s larger, meaning firefighters will have more water.

A section of the road is shutting down between Creasy Springs and Jackson Street.

74 homes will have to boil their cooking or drinking water as a precaution.

The original pipe is old and has been breaking. The entire project should be done this fall.
