Severe threat Sunday

A cold front will move into Mid-Missouri Sunday morning and stall out during Sunday afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms will develop as the front hovers in Mid-Missouri, mainly after 1pm during daytime heating. Storms won’t be widespread and will begin to taper off after 7pm.

All of Mid-Missouri will be under a marginal risk for severe weather Sunday afternoon, with a slight risk in northern areas. The main threats will be damaging winds and large hail, but an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out. Forecast models are showing a good amount of wind shear and surface CAPE (CAPE is a measure of potential energy) for Sunday. The heat and humidity during the afternoon will also add to instability. The best time to see severe thunderstorms will be from 1pm-6pm along and north of I-70.
