I-70 bridge resurfacing causing delays

Expect delays if you’re headed out on i-70 this weekend.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed one east and west bound lane of the Blackwater River bridge, so crews can resurface it.

MoDOT is expecting major delays during peak times this weekend, especially with Royals/Cardinals games in St. Louis.

“With a lane closed in both the eastbound and westbound direction, we do expect some travel delays. This time of year we see a little higher traffic volume on weekends than we do during the week,” said Travis Koestner, asst. district engineer for MoDOT.

The Blackwater River bridge is just west of the 65 interchange if you’re driving from Columbia. MoDOT officials said drivers should give themselves extra time or find a different route.

MoDOT expects the westbound portion of the project to be finished by mid-August and the eastbound lanes by October.
