MoDOT fixes confusing Ashland intersection

The Missouri Department of Transportation performed striping changes on northbound Highway 63 in Ashland to help reduce confusion for drivers.

“It is an ongoing issue because of the striping. We feel like there there have been countless issues in the area,” said Ashland Mayor Gene Rhorer.

The striping was modified at Highway 63 and Liberty Lane because many drivers mistakenly thought the right turn lane to Liberty Lane was the exit ramp to Routes Y and M at Ashland.

“There’s been several cars run off the road there ’cause they think they’re exiting the highway up to the ramp,” said Police Chief Lyn Woolford. “MoDOT has been receptive to our concerns and has obviously looked at the problem because there have been reported crashes there.”

MoDOT will also move a sign noting “Liberty Ln/Next Right” closer to Liberty Lane and add a white strip on the stop sign post to better mark the intersection.
