Columbia homes targeted in string of daytime burglaries

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is warning about a string of daytime burglaries in east and northeast Columbia. According to the department, eight daytime burglaries have been reported in the Lake of the Woods area since early April.

The targeted homes are on Pinehurst Lane, Lakeland Drive, Lake of the Woods Road, Locust Grove Drive, East Southland Drive Richland Road and Waterfront Drive South. Deputies tell ABC 17 News the suspect or suspects got into the homes by breaking windows.

In one incident on Lakeland Drive, a victim said she woke from a nap to find two black males in her home. Both suspects ran out of the house without taking anything. The victim described them as being in their late teens to early twenties, each about 5’6″ with thin builds and both wearing dark clothing.

Items taken in these burglaries include clothing, money, jewelry, furniture and electronics, including laptop computers and a large flat-screen television.
