Columbia police clear standoff on Apple Tree Lane

Columbia police cleared the scene of a standoff on Apple Tree Lane near Southampton around 7:15 Sunday night.

Columbia police said they got a 911 call from an assisted living facility on the street around 5:30 Sunday evening, saying a black man in a white T-shirt came into the facility and threatened to shoot everyone in the building.

The street was shut down and a perimeter was set up.

Officers were seen surrounding the building before going inside with rifles and shields just before 7 p.m.

A K-9 Unit was also on scene.

Police cleared the scene after finding no one inside. Officers said they could find no evidence that anyone came into the building and made those threats.
