Teen arrested for hacking into school’s computer

Mid-Missouri investigators say a teen could face charges after hacking into his school’s computer network, briefly shutting it down.

Police were called to Fulton High School around 2:30 Thursday afternoon. Officers eventually traced the breach to Austin Singleton, 17, who was logged into a computer in a classroom where the issue originated.

Singleton was arrested and taken to the police department, accused of one count of tampering with computer equipment, which is a class A misdemeanor. He was released on a summons. Singleton due in court in July.

Officials say the system suffered some programming damage, but it has since been restored by school IT workers. So far, no personal information has been released.
