New state report: Missouri Highway Patrol rated ‘fair’

Friday, Deputy State Auditor Harry Otto said he thinks if the audit of the Highway Patrol was done late this year, the patrol would have gotten a higher rating.

A fair rating was handed down by the Auditor’s Office.

The Highway Patrol’s, Criminal Justice Information Security Management System was target of the audit.

“Fair”, was the second lowest score the agency could have gotten.

Otto said, “We want to see them do more proactive monitoring of the users whether or not they’re still employed by these various agencies, whether they’ve been re-certified every two years as some of the rules require rather than wait to long to do some of these re-certifications”.

In the report ABC 17 News found 20 former Highway Patrol employees still had access to the system, and your information, despite security policy requiring accounts to be terminated as soon employees leave.

We also learned, 56 percent of MULES users could access the system using remote devices, which means they don’t have to follow centralized computer controls and data could be compromised.
