Closed low brings unsettled weather

A trough of low pressure on the west coast is forecast to develop into a closed low and drift across the Central Plains Friday through Sunday. Closed lows aloft are partially or completely detached from the main westerly current, and thus move relatively slowly. Out ahead of this circulation aloft, there is enough lift and moisture to produce periods of showers & t-storms with the first round Friday afternoon.

Widely scattered showers and t-storms are expected to develop from Friday afternoon through the evening. Additional hit-and- miss showers are possible Saturday morning with a slight chance of afternoon t-storms as a disturbance moves out ahead of the closed low and into Mid-Missouri.

As the upper low moves closer to us Sunday we have a better chance of widespread showers & t-storms during the day. At this time, severe storms are not expected. Most areas will pick up a half inch to an inch of rain Friday through Sunday with pockets of heavier rain possible.
