Teens arrested for alcohol, drugs and stealing from cars
Police in Jefferson City expect more reports, after two teenagers landed in jail for a string of thefts from cars that started late Sunday night and continued early Monday.
Jared Hayes, 17, and Charles Clemens, 18, were both arrested after officers responded to a car that stalled at Missouri Boulevard and Virginia Street.
Police claim they noticed alcohol and a large amount of items stuffed into the vehicle. Investigators later found marijuana and a wallet that was reported stolen around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Officials have already taken 10 reports about thefts from cars between 9 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday that include purses, credit cards, tools, electronics and ammunition.
It appears all of the vehicles were unlocked. Anyone who notices things missing from their car is urged to call the non-emergency police line at (573) 634-6400.
