Rain and storm chances this week

A southerly flow over the weekend has brought in warmer air and more moisture for Mid-Missouri. With this moisture a few showers moving in from the south will be possible late Sunday night and into Monday. Monday will be mostly cloudy, but mainly dry with only slight chances of showers and thunderstorms during the morning and again during the evening.

Rain and storm chances will again be low during the day on Tuesday. Then on Tuesday evening a front will stall out in Missouri. The chance of storms will increase Tuesday night and into Wednesday. Models are indicating enough moisture and wind shear by Wednesday afternoon for thunderstorms to become strong or possibly severe. The severe risk for Wednesday afternoon and evening will be primarily for large hail and damaging winds, but isolated tornadoes can’t be ruled out at this time.

The front will move through as a cold front Thursday evening and bring the best chance of severe thunderstorms. This severe risk on Thursday will include all of Mid-Missouri and will, again, contain a slight risk of all modes of severe weather.

A few showers will linger into Friday as this system completely exits the area. Then temperatures will be slightly cooler for the weekend. Dry conditions should return by late in the day Friday.

These storms are still several days out, so changes in the forecast could be necessary. We will continue to watch this system closely and will have updates throughout the week. For additional weather updates follow @abcstormtrack on twitter.
