Job seekers: Beware of Safe Delivery LLC

Better Business Bureau (BBB) advises job seekers to exercise extreme caution when dealing with Safe Delivery LLC, a work-from-home package reshipping business that claims to operate out of a Creve Coeur office building.

BBB’s warning comes after a woman in Summerfield, FL, said Safe Delivery hired her to receive and open packages, inspect the contents for damage and then reship the merchandise to addresses in the U.S. and Russia. Based on available information, BBB believes the business likely is part of a scheme to buy items like smartphones, computer equipment and digital cameras with stolen or forged credit cards and then use unwitting consumers to help distribute the stolen merchandise.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has issued several alerts in recent years about reshipping schemes. The inspection service said criminals routinely post job announcements asking for people to work as merchandising managers or “package processing assistants.” In reality, the inspection service says, the bogus companies are looking for help in smuggling items bought with stolen credit cards.

Persons doing reshipping work out of their homes potentially could face criminal charges if the shipped materials are stolen or obtained by fraud.

BBB offers the following advice for job seekers looking for work-from-home positions:

Research the company by searching the Internet and contacting BBB for a free BBB Business Review.

Ask to speak with other employees who have done similar work and contact them.

Be extremely cautious of any job that involves reshipping merchandise as that usually involves the handling of stolen items.

Ask for a detailed description of exactly what the job entails. If the business model doesn’t make sense, it is probably best to avoid it.

Ask for the location of the corporate headquarters and check it out to make sure it is legitimate.

Contact the Mid-Missouri BBB at manager@midmobbb.org or 573-886-8965 with any questions or if you feel you are a victim of a scam.
