Shooting turns into chase which leads to another shooting: neighbors

Police searched for suspects Wednesday night that fired into a home with several people inside.

A sergeant with the Columbia Police Department said bullets went through the back of a car window and the window of a house on the 400 block of Oak Street. The sergeant said no one inside was physically injured.

A neighbor on Oak Street said he saw three men standing in the street firing repeatedly at a house, and after hitting a car and the house, one shouted, “I think I got him!” He then said they ran off.

Other witnesses said that shooting then led to a chase.

“I was watching TV and heard ‘pow, pow, pow, pow!'” a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said. “So I looked out the window and saw three or four men chasing one man and they were shooting back and forth at each other as they ran.”

The neighbor said she was amazed no one got hit.

“I could’ve seen a murder right there! That was just crazy,” she said.

And she had no idea why the men were chasing or shooting at each other.

ABC 17 News went to the house that was shot at to find out why and what exactly happened, but they refused to answer any questions and kicked the crew off the property.

The witness who described the chase and shooting said she was angry it would happen in a neighborhood filled with children.

“It’s just out of control, you can’t take back a life, once you take it, it’s gone,” she said.

The department received the dispatch to the area a quarter until 11 p.m.

The department did not have a description of the three people it believes are involved in the shooting.

The chase happened on Columbia Housing Authority property. It’s unclear what action the Housing Authority will now take.
