Police call off search for suspect in Callaway County

Thursday, Callaway County authorities are looking for a man who got away after stealing from a manufacturer near Holts Summit.

Holts Summit police, Callaway County deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers conducted a manhunt along Route AA for several hours Thursday morning, but made no arrests.

Holts Summit Police said it started at Doolittle Trailer Manufacturing when an employee called to report a break-in just after 8:30 Thursday morning.

Chuck Frank, the manager, told Abc 17 an employee saw a silver pickup truck stuck in a field behind the building after noticing the break-in. When workers drove over to check it out, a man jumped out of the truck and ran into the woods.

“He was medium height, thin guy wearing a brown jacket,” Frank said. “And they thought he looked maybe 30 years old or so.”

Authorities searched for the man along Route AA for about three hours, finally calling off the manhunt around 11:30 a.m.

Police said the vehicle found in the field was reported stolen from Kansas City last Thursday. And the license plates were reported stolen from another vehicle that was recovered yesterday in Callaway County from being stolen.

Frank said the man got away with about $1,000 worth of power tools and was trying to steal more.

“There were several power tools missing and a lot of other tools that had been piled on a cart as if they were getting ready to take them but didn’t get a chance to come back for the second trip,” Frank said.

Doolittle Trailers just started installing a brand new security system Wednesday, but it was not turned on yet, Frank said. He said they will be putting in several cameras and door monitors.

Holts Summit police said investigators are working to get surveillance video from a nearby business to get a better description of the suspect or suspects involved in the break-in.

Doolittle Trailers Manufacturing is offering a $500 reward to anyone who calls with helpful information that leads to the man’s arrest, Frank said.
