Man accused of throwing brick at person’s head also accused of attacking correctional officer

A man accused of throwing a brick at someone’s head in a Columbia bar is also accused of attacking and injuring a correctional officer.

28-year-old Maxrile Barney is accused of throwing a brick at someone’s head at Ten Below in Columbia on January 17.

Barney was arrested over the weekend, and appeared in Boone County Court for arraignment Monday.

According to court documents, Barney is also accused of severely injuring a correctional officer at the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center on March 13, prompting a lockdown at the facility.

Barney was seen on jail surveillance video punching the officer in the head about 20 times, and throwing him down on the pavement.

That officer was injured in the back of the head, mouth, and rib cage.

Another officer who was trying to help restrain Barney was injured in the face and jaw.

Barney is charged with committing violence against an employee in Callaway County, and second degree assault and armed criminal action in Boone County.

Barney later admitted to assaulting the correctional officer due to his mental illness, and claimed he was being harassed by the officer.
