First round of spring storms possible Tuesday
The first round of t-storms for the spring season is possible Tuesday. The Stormtrack Weather Team is keeping an eye on medium range forecast models which show a developing area of low pressure in the northern Plains Monday night through Tuesday which will send a warm front through Mid-Missouri Tuesday morning followed by a cold front Tuesday night.
The storm system will draw moisture in from the Gulf of Mexico Monday night which will meet up with the leading edge of warmer air as a warm front tracks to the northeast through Missouri. Out ahead of the front, showers & elevated thunderstorms are expected late Monday night through early Tuesday morning. No severe weather is expected although you might hear some thunder with heavy downpours which move through.
A cold front will approach from the west Tuesday evening with showers & t-storms forecast to develop ahead of it. At this time forecast models show enough instability and wind shear for any storms which develop to become severe as they move into western Missouri. For this reason the Storm Prediction Center put a slight severe risk in areas west of HWY 63 Tuesday night.
Considering the storm system is still several days out, many changes in the forecast could occur. At this time we are watching it closely and will have updates as we head into early next week. Please check back for the latest information.
