Crews working to repair pipes that caused sinkholes in Columbia
Crews were working to repair busted pipes that cause multiple sinkholes through Columbia.
The newest one is downtown near 9th and Elm streets, next to Shakespeare’s Pizza.
Crews plan to work on that damage Thursday.
Workers started repairs on the sinkhole along Nebraska Avenue Wednesday.
Officials said the broken pipe was put in in the 1960s, that’s what most of the city uses for stormwater pipes.
Crews removed concrete and dug to find other pipes along the street.
They will replace it with a 30-inch PVC pip that should last longer than the metal.
