Columbia fire crews respond to building collapse

The Columbia Fire Department responded to investigate a building collapse at an apartment complex Sunday morning.

It happened in the 1100 block of Queen Ann Drive at Eagle Crest apartments.

A resident called 911 after hearing what they described as a loud boom and the ceiling in the living room looked like it was about to collapse.

Crews on scene determined the ceiling sheetrock had pulled loose from the ceiling joists.

An employee with Columbia Building, Site and Development was called to the scene to verify the stability of the structure, which was deemed stable.

No injuries were reported and everyone had evacuated the apartment when crews arrived on scene.

Three engines, a ladder, a rescue squad and a technical rescue trailer responded to the scene.
