Trial date set for former Stover pastor accused of child sex crimes

A former pastor charged with child sex crimes is set to be in court Friday.

Travis Smith is charged with statutory rape and sodomy for a 2005 incident.

According to court documents, Smith had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl in 2005.

Documents state they met through Smith’s church, the First Baptist Church in Stover.

They allegedly had sexual encounters at the High Point Cemetery in Moniteau County and were even caught by the girl’s father at least two times.

He’s also charged in a separate case from the 1990s.

He’s accused of forcible rape along with sexual abuse and statutory rape in 1998.

Those court documents said this happened with a 16-year-old girl in Latham.

It states he forced the teen to the ground and raped her.

It also allegedly happened again the next year in the back seat of his truck.

Smith was previously acquitted on child molestation charges in 2011.

Smith’s trial is set for December 7 in California.
