Investigators: Smoke inhalation possible cause of Callaway Co. man’s death

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office are still investigating a house fire that happened just before early last Sunday morning.

It happened in the 1200 block of County Road 352 near Millersburg.

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene and Callaway County EMS responded to provide support.

After crews extinguished the fire, a victim was found dead inside the home.

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office said Monday steps were being taken to confirm the identity of the deceased.

Investigators said he died of some smoke inhalation and there was no indication of foul play in his death.

A final ruling will not be made until toxicology reports are completed in the next 6 to 8 weeks.

ABC 17 News talked to one neighbor who said it felt more like an explosion.
